Stonefold processes stone positions, legal moves, captures, ko state, territory, scores, AI decisions, and local preferences only as needed to provide the game.

About Stonefold

Stonefold is an offline implementation of Go supporting 9×9, 13×13, and 19×19 boards.

Players place stones on intersections, capture opposing groups, claim territory, pass when appropriate, and finish with automatic scoring.

Personal Information

Stonefold does not require a name, email address, phone number, password, payment information, contacts, precise location, or other personal profile information for core gameplay.

Board State

During a match, Stonefold processes the information required to maintain the current Go position.

Stone Placement

Stonefold processes touch input when the user selects a legal board intersection.

Placed stones become part of the current local match state.

Legal Move Validation

The game evaluates whether an intersection is empty and whether placing a stone there complies with the supported rules.

Illegal placements are rejected locally.

Liberties and Groups

Stonefold identifies connected stones of the same color and calculates their liberties to determine whether a group remains alive on the board.

Captures

If an opposing group has no remaining liberties after a legal move, Stonefold removes those stones from the board according to the rules of Go.

Capture logic is part of the local game engine and does not involve remote processing.

Suicide Prevention

Stonefold may prevent a move that would leave the newly placed stone or its connected group without liberties when that move is prohibited by the supported rules.

Ko Rule

The game tracks recent board state as needed to prevent immediate repetitions prohibited by the ko rule.

Ko information is temporary gameplay state.

Passing

Players may pass instead of placing a stone. Stonefold may track consecutive passes to determine when normal play is finished and scoring should begin.

Territory and Final Score

At the end of a game, Stonefold may evaluate controlled empty intersections, captured stones, or other supported scoring elements to determine the result.

Final scoring is calculated on the device.

Board Sizes

Stonefold supports different board sizes so users can choose shorter 9×9 games, intermediate 13×13 games, or traditional 19×19 play.

The selected board size may be remembered as a local preference.

Computer Opponents

Stonefold may use an on-device AI opponent that evaluates board positions, captures, liberties, territory, local fights, and future move possibilities before choosing a move.

The AI does not require a remote AI service.

AI Difficulty

Difficulty levels may change search depth, move evaluation, tactical strength, response quality, or other computer-opponent behavior.

Difficulty is a local game option.

Local Two-Player Mode

Pass-and-play allows two people to take alternating turns on the same device.

This mode does not require online matchmaking, usernames, or remote player accounts.

Local Storage

Stonefold may store basic settings and game information needed to preserve the user's preferences.
